Seychelles on a smaller budget
Seychelles have a reputation for being expensive, and that holds for the way most people travel here. Cook for yourself, take the bus and fly in February, and it costs a fraction — with the beach being exactly the same beach.
- Biggest lever
- February or November instead of Christmas
- Suits
- self-catering, longer stays
Three decisions make almost the whole difference. First, when you travel: February and November are the cheapest months, Christmas and New Year the dearest, at similar weather. Second, self-catering rather than half board — the markets in Victoria and on Praslin are good, and guest houses nearly always have a kitchen. Third, the ferry instead of the domestic flight, which solves the baggage problem at the same time. What you do not save on, and should not: travel insurance with repatriation.
Before you book
Three islands in seven nights?
It is the most common mistake in Seychelles. Every island change costs half a day, and the transfer days land in the middle of the trip. One conversation beforehand prevents it.
