The real danger in the water is currents, not sharks. On open bays such as Grand Anse on La Digue or Anse Intendance on Mahé the southeast trade wind builds heavy surf with undertow, and that is where people drown — on beaches that look harmless in photographs.

Medical care in Seychelles
The only hospital that handles serious cases is Seychelles Hospital in Victoria on Mahé. Praslin and La Digue have smaller facilities for everyday matters; anything larger is transferred to Mahé or abroad.

How safe are Seychelles?
Seychelles counts as a safe destination; violent crime against travellers is rare. What does happen is theft — from hire cars, from unlocked accommodation, and from the beach while you are in the water.
