Mahé
Anse Major
Anse Major lies inside Morne Seychellois National Park on Mahé's northwest coast near Beau Vallon, about 450 metres of sand backed by forest and granite cliffs. The bay opens northwest and the seabed drops away steeply close to shore, so the water turns deep fast.
- Island
- Mahé
- Faces
- northwest
- Calm
- May to September, in the southeast trade wind
- Safety
- December to March, in the northwest monsoon, expect stronger surf and currents on this northwest-facing bay — less suitable for small children or weak swimmers in that period.
- Access
- 2.4km trail from Danzil, 45-60 min, small fee
There is no road: you reach it on the 2.4km trail from the Danzil trailhead near Bel Ombre, a 45-60 minute walk with a small entrance fee, or by boat, both of which keep the crowds away. Because the drop-off is steep, currents and waves can be strong here, so this is not a beach for casual swimmers or children. Offshore, reef and coral seabeds make for good snorkelling when conditions are calm. A small beach bar sometimes operates in season, but do not count on it.

Three islands in seven nights?
It is the most common mistake in Seychelles. Every island change costs half a day, and the transfer days land in the middle of the trip. One conversation beforehand prevents it.
