Anse Marron, La Digue

La Digue

Anse Marron

Anse Marron lies at the southern tip of La Digue, past Anse Source d'Argent, where the swimmable spot is a natural saltwater pool sealed off from the open sea by granite boulders on three sides. The coast faces southeast into the trade winds, so the water off it is roughest from May to October and calmest from November to April.

Island
La Digue
Faces
southeast
Calm
December to March, in the northwest monsoon
Safety
May to September, in the southeast trade wind, expect stronger surf and currents on this southeast-facing bay — less suitable for small children or weak swimmers in that period.
Access
Guided hike only, ~45 min from L'Union Estate

Access is a guided hike only: about 45 minutes over boulders, coastal scrub and a cliff-edge path from L'Union Estate, and independent access is discouraged because the trail is unmarked, the granite gets slippery and timing depends on the tide. The rock scramble at the entry point also gets hazardous when swell is up, which happens most often in June and July. There is no coral reef offshore and the open water beyond the pool deepens quickly, so the pool itself is what you swim, not the beach in front of it. November to April, when the sea calms, is the more reliable stretch for actually getting in.

Three islands in seven nights?

It is the most common mistake in Seychelles. Every island change costs half a day, and the transfer days land in the middle of the trip. One conversation beforehand prevents it.
